Cal/OSHA and OSHA require AHERA accreditation for employees who need to collect samples of materials to determine if the material contains asbestos. AHERA accreditation is also required for employees who may disturb more asbestos-containing pipe insulation or surfacing materials than will fit in one standard-sized waste or glovebag, or remove other materials in a non-intact manner. After the initial course, “refresher course” training is required on an annual basis.
